What are Tabatha Roses and where did they originate?

Let’s first talk about the origin of roses. According to Redalyc, “the rose is an exotic plant with significant ornamental interest belonging to the Rosaceae family. Today, it is one of the most recognized, cultivated, and sought-after cut flowers. Its unmatched beauty, variety of colors, shades, combinations, gentle fragrance, and diverse shapes make roses a key element in decoration, highly favored by consumers.”

The rose originates from China and has been renowned for over 4,000 years. Its popularity spread to India, Persia, Greece, Italy, and Spain. “In 1815, France took the lead in its cultivation. Ten years later, over 5,000 varieties were known. Roses were later introduced to America by the Spanish and Saxons, and today, they are commercially cultivated in various countries of this continent, especially in Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Guatemala”, as cited by the aforementioned Scientific Journal Network.

Daniel Estepa, General Manager at Bouqly, mentions, “Tabatha Roses are an ornamental rose variety bred by Interplant.” These roses are part of the intermediate hybrid tea roses group, which “differentiates from regular hybrid tea roses with smaller stems and rose flowers. The stem length of intermediates varies between 50 and 70 centimeters. Generally, they have a longer shelf life than standard hybrid teas, making them perfect as cut roses in mixed bouquets or rose bunches,” as noted by Interplant Roses.

Features of Tabatha Roses

These medium-sized roses originate from the Netherlands. Their vibrant pink color is captivating. From its bud blooms to a beautiful cup-shaped flower.

Daniel states, “The Tabatha rose has a medium pink color with a bud size between 5-6 cm, a stem length ranging from 40 to 70 cm, and dark green foliage. Its vase life ranges from 8 to 14 days.”

These bicolored roses, with yellow petals and red edges, bring a unique and vibrant touch to your decorations. They’re ideal for creating eye-catching flower bouquets, bold table centers, and dazzling decorations. Perfect for small business owners, restaurants, weddings, and events.

How to Cultivate Tabatha Roses?

Bouqly boasts 15,000 rose plants, ensuring a supply of 10,000 stems monthly. The production process is as follows:

  1. Start with the planting of carefully chosen rootstocks, which are grafted with Tabatha rose buds after 45 days.
  2. After grafting, the roses undergo a vegetative growth phase lasting around four months. Subsequently, a greater number of stems is induced.
  3. Following formation, the best stems are chosen through pruning. Within the first 75 days, the most beautiful roses are produced, ready to delight and brighten the lives of your loved ones.
